American technology firm Apple is reportedly set to release its new generation iPads in India this week.
Ingram Micro, Apple's official reseller, has confirmed that the new iPad Air and iPad Mini with retina display will be made available in the subcontinent on 7 December, reported PTI
Both tablet variants made their global debut in US on 22 October. Despite having a big 9.7-inch screen with metal back cover, the fifth-generation device weighs just a pound (469 g) and has been aptly named iPad Air. It sports a retina display (2,048x1536p) made of IGZO (Indium gallium zinc oxide) technology having a pixel density of 264 ppi (pixels per inch).
The new iPad Air runs on the iOS v7.0 out-of-the box (v7.0.4 update now available). Like its smartphone cousin iPhone 5S, iPad air is also backed by Apple's 64-bit architecture based A7 chipset. It is paired with M7 co-processor to manage motion related tasks, thereby taking a load off on the main CPU. The device features a 5.0-meagpixel iSight camera with 5-element lens, f/2.4 aperture, HDR photos, full HD video recording capability and 3 x video zoom. On the front side, it houses a 1.2-megapixel camera with HD (720p) video recording and face-detection abilities.
The smaller iPad Mini 2 sports a 7.9-inch retina display (2048x1536p) with 326 ppi pixel density and packs pretty much the same internal hardware as seen inside its elder sibling, sans the battery capacity (23.8-watt/hour).
As of now, there is no official word on the pricing of the devices, but rumour has it that the big iPad variants are expected to priced between ₹35,900 and ₹65,900. The mini variants are speculated to cost around ₹28,900 and ₹58,900.
Apple, in its bid to attract price-conscious Indian buyers, may run promotional buy-back schemes with discounts on the new iPads, reported The Economic Times.
