YotaPhone: World's First Dual-display Smartphone released in India via FlipkartYota

Jumbo Electronics, a UAE based YotaPhone distributor, in collaboration with Flipkart on Friday (17 October) released a dual-screen smartphone in India.

"YotaPhone features an electronic paper display that would work as a second screen, making it possible to deliver an array of new and improved user experiences. It combines a smartphone and e-reader into one device for those who enjoy reading on-the-go even in the brightest sunlight," reported NDTV, Abdul Karim Sawan, Vice President, Yota Devices (Middle East and India) as saying.

"You can save images and information on the second screen, and it stays there, even if you lose battery power. You can save anything on the always-on display from a map to a boarding pass. Information, like a missed call or meeting reminder, stays on the always-on screen until it is no longer needed," he added.

YotaPhone's main USP is its dual-screen. It features a main-screen HD (1280x720p) display and on the rear-side, it boasts of 4.3-inch (640x360p) screen with electronic paper display technology. This innovative screen is always on – even if the battery is very low and is protected with the world's-first curved damage-resistance Corning Gorilla Glass shield.

Under the hood, it packs 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 series CPU, 2GB RAM, 32GB inbuilt storage, 1,800 mAh battery, a 13.0-megapixel camera with LED flash, auto-focus and a 1.0-megapixel snapper on the front.

Going by the specifications, YotaPhone (if released with competitive price-tag) will certainly gain attraction among the tech savvy youths, just like Xiaomi Mi3 and Redmi 1S series smartphones in India.

It has to be noted that YotaPhone (device number: C9660) now available at Flipkart for ₹23,499 is a 2013 model, with Snapdragon 800 CPU, which was unveiled at MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2014, Barcelona. The new model has not been released in any international markets, for unknown reasons.

Competition:

Though, the YotaPhone is one year old in the market, its dual-technology gives rich user experience, like no other top-end phones in the market. It will be up against equally impressive Moto X (Gen 1., price dropped to ₹17,999), Sony Xperia C3, 41.0-MP camera phone -Nokia Lumia 1020 (available under ₹25,000 at some online stores), HTC Desire 600 C, HTC Desire 816G (yet to hit the stores)
