A popular Russian telecommunication company, Yota, is reportedly planning to launch the feature-rich handset YotaPhone in India. Yota is a subsidiary of Skartel LLC.
Home-grown e-commerce site Flipkart accidentally listed the yet-to-be-released YotaPhone, hinting that the online seller is prepping for a launch soon. Once the word got out into the Internet, the page was pulled off from the website, but by then some technology media sites ( Maktech Blog) had taken screenshots.
This goof-up by Flipkart may seem as an inadvertent mistake for some people, but going by similar reports of the past, this is one of the smart ways to drum up the news of the arrival of the new devices in to the market.
As said before, YotaPhone's main USP is its dual-screen. It features one main-screen HD (1,280x720p) display and on the rear side it boasts of 4.3-inch 640x360p screen with electronic paper display technology. This innovative screen is always on – even if the battery is very low. It is protected with the world's first curved damage-resistance Corning Gorilla Glass shield.
Under the hood, it packs 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 series CPU, 2GB RAM, 32GB inbuilt storage, 1,800 mAh battery, a 13.0-megapixel camera with LED flash, auto-focus and a 1.0-megapixel snapper on the front.
Going by the specifications, YotaPhone (if released with competitive price tag) will certainly gain traction among tech savvy youths, just like Xiaomi Mi3 and Redmi 1S series smartphones in India.
It has to be noted, the leaked YotaPhone (device number: C9660) on the Flipkart is a 2013 model, not the 2014 version (with Snapdragon 800 CPU), which was unveiled at Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona. The new model has not been released in any international markets, for reasons unknown.
