Yash's Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups has made a massive opening at the box office despite receiving mixed reviews. The Geetu Mohandas directorial, which marks Yash's return to the big screen after four years, has grossed around Rs 140 crore worldwide on its opening day.
Starring Yash alongside Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Rukmini Vasanth, Huma Qureshi and Tara Sutaria, Toxic has emerged as the sixth-biggest Indian opener domestically. The film earned around Rs 101 crore at the Indian box office on Day 1, making it one of the few films to cross the Rs 100 crore mark on its opening day.
At the worldwide box office, Toxic collected around Rs 140 crore on Day 1, making it the 10th-biggest global opener among Indian films. The film has surpassed the opening-day figures of films including Jawan, They Call Him OG and Devara: Part One, according to the report.
Despite the strong box-office response, the film has received largely mixed-to-negative reviews from critics. The impressive opening, therefore, comes as a significant boost for the makers, with the film now facing the challenge of maintaining its momentum over the five-day extended opening weekend.
The film's strong start also reflects Yash's massive pan-India fan base, with Toxic releasing across Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. The Hindi version emerged as the biggest contributor in India on Day 1, according to industry-tracker figures cited by The Indian Express.
