It has been noted that the much-anticipated Sony smartphone, Xperia Z1 mini, has been officially launched in Japan and will be headed to Japanese network carrier Docomo.

The dates for its worldwide release is still under wraps, reports suggest that the handset would hit shelves soon.

Sony Xperia mini shares most of its specifications from its elder sibling, Xperia Z1. The smartphone targets users who prefer to buy a smaller device but is equally powerful under-the-hood, reports Android Authority.

One of the most competitive rivals for Xperia Z1 mini is tipped to be Samsung Galaxy S4 mini, which is the smaller version of Samsung's flagship Galaxy S4 smartphone. Some of the specifications of both handsets are compared below:


Sony Xperia Z1 Mini: 4.3-inch TFT captive multi-touch display with 720p resolution and 342ppi pixel density.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini: 4.3-inch Super AMOLED captive multi-touch display with 540x960 resolution and 256ppi pixel density.


Sony Xperia Z1 Mini: 16GB on-board memory with micro SD card support upto 64GB and 2GB RAM.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini: 8GB on-board memory (5GB usable) and support upto 64GB micro SD card and 1.5GB RAM.


Sony Xperia Z1 Mini: Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset along with 2.2GHz quad-core Krait 400 CPU and Adreno 330 for graphics. The device runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS, according to GSM Arena.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini: Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset along with 1.7GHz dual-core Krait CPU and Adreno 305 for graphics. The smartphone also runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS.


Sony Xperia Z1 Mini: 20.7-megapixel rear camera and 2.0-megapixel front camera.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini: 8.0-megapixel rear camera and 1.9-megapixel front camera.


Sony Xperia Z1 Mini: Non-removable 2300mAh Li-ion battery.

Samsung Galaxy S4 mini: Removable 1900mAh Li-ion battery.

The price of Sony Xperia Z1 Mini is not yet known. However, taking note of its high-end specifications, the smartphone is expected to be priced on the higher side.
