In a surprise development, Xiaomi has taken the wraps off a new budget smartphone Redmi 3X edition in China, just two days after it unveiled the new Redmi 3S.

The new Redmi 3X houses pretty much the same hardware as seen inside the original 3S series but slightly differs in dimensions and RAM+storage configuration.

The former measures 139.7 mm in length, 69.7 wide, weighs 146 g and comes with 2GB RAM and 32GB inbuilt memory, whereas the latter is a bit smaller. It measures 139.3 mm (height) x 69.6 mm (width) in dimensions, weighs 144g and is available in 2GB+16GB and 3GB+32GB combinations. Rest of the key features such as screen size, resolution, camera, battery capacity remain the same on both the devices, Android Headlines reported

Furthermore, the Redmi 3X is exclusive to the network carrier China Unicom for ¥899 (around $136/€121/Rs. 9,177), thus ruling out the possibility of India or any other global markets getting the device.

That being said, the Redmi 3S is certain to set foot in India and other regions as the company has not released the successor of Redmi 2 series yet. 

In a related development, Xiaomi has confirmed to launch the mid-range phablet Mi Max in India later this month.
