The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 is in news with its release date drawing close but if you are expecting significant feature upgrades over Redmi Note 4G, you could be in for a disappointment. There could be no major change as far as specifications are concerned, if one is to go by the reports.

The Chinese mobile-phone makers are expected to unveil Redmi Note 2 along with MIUI 7 on 13 August, according to My Drivers (via Gizmo China). Chinese online retailer JD went a step further by claiming that the device will be up for pre-orders on 16 August.

The same source went on to claim that Redmi Note 2 will come with a price tag of CNY 699 (approximately Rs 7,200 / $112 / €103) for 16 GB variant and CNY 799 (approximately Rs 8,200 / $112 / €103) for 32 GB model. However, prospective buyers from India can expect a higher price, at least around Rs 10,000, as Redmi Note 4G was priced Rs 9,999 at the time of its launch.

There are conflicting reports on specifications of Redmi Note 2, but all have hinted a possible handset not very different from its predecessor.

Redmi Note 2 is expected to sport a 5.5-inch screen with 720p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor with quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU, 13 MP main camera and a 5 MP front snapper, according to GSM Arena. However, My Drivers claimed that the device will come with a 5.5-inch touchscreen with 1,080p resolution, MediaTek MT6795 SoC processor clocking at 2 GHz, octa-core CPU, 2 GB RAM, 13 MP rear camera, 5 MP front snapper, and 3,020 mAh battery and Android 5.0 Lollipop.

On the other hand, Redmi Note 4G has a 5.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 720 x 1280 pixels (267 ppi pixel density), Qualcomm Snapdragon 400, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, upgradable to Android 4.4.2 KitKat, 8 GB internal memory expandable up to 64 GB via microSD card, 2 GB RAM, 13 MP main camera, 5 MP secondary snapper and 3100 mAh battery.

Going by the reports that have surfaced so far, Redmi Note 2 is unlikely to have significant feature upgrade over its predecessor. In fact, the devices may have a few common features like camera, screen size and RAM. It is reported that the upcoming smartphone will be powered by 3,020 mAh battery, while its predecessor has a 3,100 mAh battery. So, it is to be seen how the new device will stake up against Note 4G.
