Xiaomi Officially Launches Redmi 2, Mi Pad in India; Price, Specifications

After days of speculations, Xiaomi on Thursday (12 March) finally launched the feature-rich budget smartphone Redmi 2 and Mi-Pad tablet in India.

The new Redmi 2 sports 4.7-inch HD IPS screen and runs on the Android 4.4.4 KitKat (with MIUI v6.0) powered by the 64-bit class 1.2GHz snapdragon 410 SoC (System on Chip) with 1GB RAM, 8GB inbuilt memory and a 2200 mAh battery.

On the other hand, Xiaomi Mi Pad features 7.9-inch QXGA (1536 x 2048 p) IPS screen with Gorilla Glass 3 shield and houses 2.2GHz Nvidia Tegra K1 quad-core Cortex A15 CPU backed sumptuous 2GB RAM, 16GB inbuilt memory and a high capacity 6700 mAh battery.

The company has confirmed that the Redmi 2 and Mi-Pad will be sold exclusively on Flipkart on 24 March for ₹6,999 and ₹12,999 respectively. It also added that the limited-edition 2GB RAM based Redmi 2 will also be made available in India, but little later in the year.

Like previous times, prospective buyers of Redmi 2 are required to get registered at Flipkart to become eligible for 24 March flash sale. The registration window is slated to open later in the evening at 6pm.

However, in a welcome move, Xiaomi will sell Mi Pad on Flipkart via open sale without the cumbersome registration process.

Competition:

Once released, Redmi 2 will go up against the recently released Moto E (2 Gen), Lenovo A6000, Microsoft Lumia 535 and other budget phones.

Whereas the feature-rich Mi Pad is poised to give stiff challenge to the popular Nexus 7 (2013), Apple iPad mini (1 Gen) and other domestic brands.
