Updated on October 26:

Hugo Barra, Xiaomi's VP, confirmed to IBTimes, India, that the company has no plans to launch Mi Note 2 and Mi MIX in India.

Original story...

In a shocking revelation, Xiaomi's global VP Hugo Barra was quoted by Phone Radar's Editor-in-chief Amit Bhawani stating that the Mi Note 2 and Mi MIX smartphones will not hit the Indian shores at all. This comes as a surprise as the Mi Note 2 could have many takers for its impressive spec-sheet and reasonable cost.

Xiaomi has strong presence in India, where it is witnessing record-breaking sales of smartphones. The company's head Lei Jun recently congratulated Barra and Manu Kumar Jain, the company's India chief, for achieving a significant milestone of selling more than 1 million smartphones in just 18 days.

Xiaomi is aiming to acquire the largest market share in India within 3-5 years, but keeping India away from crucial product launches such as the Mi Note 2 may not bode so well for the company.

It is often the company's practice to launch any new product in its home country before releasing it in the international markets. Xiaomi launches its products in India sooner or later, but Barra's statement regarding Mi Note 2 and Mi MIX not coming to India is a bit startling.

IBTimes, India could not independently verify the information with Barra or Bhawani but we have reached out to Xiaomi separately regarding a statement on the matter. We'll update the story when we receive a response.

For those who are unaware, Xiaomi launched Mi Note 2 and Mi MIX concept phones in Beijing on Tuesday. Both smartphones were the stars of the event, but the Mi MIX stole the limelight for its futuristic design and features. The Mi Note 2 wasn't in the shadows completely as it turned many heads during the event.

As for the specs, the Mi MIX is a bezel-less smartphone featuring a ceramic body designed by Phillppe Starck. The concept smartphone features a 6.4-inch display with black screen technology and large 16:9 viewing area. The Mi is powered by 14nm-based 2.35GHz Snapdragon quad-core chipset, 4GB/6GB RAM and 128GB/256GB storage options.

There is an impressive 16MP primary camera with PDAF and LED flash and the front camera has a 5MP wide-angle lens. Under the hood, it packs a 4,400mAh batter equipped with Quick Charge 3.0 and runs Android Marshmallow based MIUI 8.

As for the Mi Note 2, the premium handset dons a fine design with high-grade 7 series aluminium body with curved 3D glass shield on both front and back sides. It also sports a large 5.7-inch flexible OLED display with dual curved edges and 2K resolution. Unlike other Mi phones, the Mi Note 2 comes with a fingerprint sensor-integrated home button on the front and has the "back" and "recent" buttons incorporated into the display.

The Mi Note 2 is powered by Snapdragon 821 chipset, 4GB/6GB RAM options and 64GB/128GB storage variants. It packs a 4,070mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 and supports 4G LTE and NFC. On the camera side of things, there is a 22.56MP Sony IMX318 camera sensor on the back with OIS, EIS, and LED flash along with an 8MP selfie camera.
