The Xiaomi Mi Max 2, the Chinese smartphone maker's upcoming super-sized phablet, is widely expected to feature a few design changes, along with internal upgrades. Now, a new leak has supported this ongoing speculation, with some remarkable details.

Hot on the heels of last week's report that Xiaomi is all set to launch the Mi Max 2 in China on May 25, a set of leaked images surfaced online on Sunday, offering the first look at the device. Rumours and leaks surrounding the device have so far helped enthusiastic consumers imagine what the phone could look like. But the leaked images revealed that the Mi Max 2 is indeed getting some revamps over the Mi Max.

Pictured in champagne gold colour, the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 apparently sports different U-shaped antenna lines while its camera setup also gets a redesign with the LED flash sitting on the left of the sensor. The images also indicate that the company will retain the fingerprint scanner on the device's back, instead of embedding it on the front.

Another image showing the phone's top and bottom parts suggests that Xiaomi has reduced the number of holes in the speaker grill. The images also show two sets of grills on both sides of the USB Type-C port, as well as an audio jack.

While the authenticity of the images couldn't be confirmed, they seem to be genuine ones because of their similarity to a blueprint seen on the website of Taiwan's communications agency, Gizmo China reported.

Rumours are rife that the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 will feature a 6.4-inch Full HD display, a 12 megapixel Sony IMX378 rear-facing camera with a larger aperture, a 5 megapixel front-facing camera and a metal unibody design. The device is also expected to come with 4K video recording support and a fingerprint scanner placed on its back.

Other likely specs include a Snapdragon 626 chipset, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, a 5,000mAh battery, Android Nougat-based MIUI and NFC, among others.

When it comes to price, the base model of the Mi Max 2 is likely to cost ¥1,499 (about Rs. 14,000) while the premium variant could be priced at ¥1,699 (about Rs. 16,000).
