Xiaomi teased to launch new phone at 23rd April: is it MI 5?MI India

After months of speculations, Xiaomi's new smartphone Mi 4i (aka Ferrari) is expected to finally see the light of the day on 23 April in India.

For weeks, the company has been teasing with cryptic images on its official Facebook page to spark excitement among fans.

To help provide a better perspective on the Xiaomi Mi 4i key specifications, we have sifted through numerous reports and have put together a list of probable key features that are likely to make the cut in Xiaomi's upcoming device.

Xiaomi Mi 4i Design & build:

Numerous reports suggest that the upcoming Mi 4i is expected to be an affordable version of the flagship Mi4. But, Xiaomi is not likely to compromise on the build quality to cut the cost. Going by the couple of teasers posted by the company, the upcoming phone will fit comfortably in the user's hand. It has a sturdy body (probably polycarbonate plastic), enough to withstand accidental drops.

Xiaomi Mi 4i will feature 4.9-inch HD (1280x 720p) display, not full HD screen as previously anticipated.

Some fans might complain about Xiaomi's failure to incorporate full HD like Mi3. But we would like to remind our readers that full HD or even the QHD screens, which we see in the current crop of flagship phones, are just gimmicks companies use to market their products.

Research has shown that the human eye cannot note the difference in pixel density beyond HD (720x1280p) in the small confines of a smartphone screen, and moreover display with full HD/2K resolution would have been a huge burden on the battery, draining power in no time if a high-resolution video is played even for a short while. So, Mi 4i will certainly not disappoint fans who like watching videos or photos on the device.

Xiaomi Mi 4i Processor, Storage and RAM:

Earlier this month, Xiaomi Mi 4i was spotted at a benchmarking site, revealing the key specifications of the device. It is expected to boast 1.65GHz Snapdragon Octa-core CPU (most probably 615 series) and will be backed by 2GB RAM and 16GB inbuilt mememory.

Xiaomi Mi 4i Camera:

Xiaomi Mi 4i is said to house 12.0-megapixel camera with LED flash on the rear-side and a 5.0-megapixel camera with wide-angle lens, full HD video recording ability to appease the selfie enthusiasts.

Xiaomi Mi 4i Mobile Operating System:

It has been more than six months since Android 5.0 Lollipop was released, so the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 4i is most likely to come with the latest Google mobile OS out-of-the-box.

Xiaomi Mi 4i India Release and Price details:

There is no word on when Xiaomi Mi 4i will hit stores in India.

Rumours are rife that the company is planning to price the new mid-range phone more than its budget models (Redmi 2 and Redmi Note 4G) and less than its top-end category (Mi4 and Mi Note series). It is likely to be priced anywhere between ₹10,000 to ₹14,000, but this is just a speculation. We just have to wait a few more hours to really know what Xiaomi has in store for us.
