The DC Extended Universe is all set to start rolling out, with the first movie, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice", releasing next year.

In a recent update, it was revealed that the preparation regarding the solo "Wonder Woman" movie was almost done and the movie will begin production soon.

"Wonder Woman" will be the first movie to represent a female superhero in the new DC Extended Universe, a parallel cinematic universe to its counterpart Marvel (that goes by the name of Marvel Cinematic Universe or MCU).

The movie has been under development since 2001 when the producer, Joel Silver, came up with a script. However, the idea was shelved by Warner Bros. back then.

Over the years, various prominent filmmakers, writers and producers tried to finalise the movie on the Amazonian princess, but in vain. The likes of Joss Whedon ("The Avengers") and Laeta Kalogridis ("Shutter Island") were also involved, but it didn't work.

After the success of MCU's "The Avengers," Warner Bros. and DC decided to build a shared universe and thus, the movie idea for Wonder Woman resurfaced.

Before appearing in her own solo movie in July, 2017, Wonder Woman will be first seen in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" which is scheduled to be released on 25 March, 2016.

The crew of the movie, accompanied by DC Comics chief executive officer Geoff Johns, has crossed the Atlantic to Rickmansworth, England where the first day of shooting will take place.

In a Twitter post, he expressed his joy to director Patty Jenkins for the start of the production.

Johns also teased that the movie may be a pre-sequel to "Batman v Superman" and connects the link between the other movies of shared universe. Gal Gadot, who will be portraying the character of Wonder Woman in the movie, recently posted a picture of her workout on Instagram. It seems that she is all pumped up to play the character of warrior princess.
