Women go topless to protest violence against students in Johannesburg

Several female student protesters at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, took off their clothes after violent clashes between protesters and police. University students have been demonstrating across South Africa for weeks over the governments proposal to raise tuition fees by 8 percent. Hundreds of students rallied on 4 October after police arrested at least two protesters, for ignoring a ban against public gatherings earlier in the morning. Chaos then ensued at the demonstration, with protesters attacking police vehicles with rocks, and officers responding by firing rubber bullets, stun grenades and tear gas.
