A woman in Uttar Pradesh has claimed that her husband gave her triple talaq after she went to attend a rally of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The woman who has been identified as Fayra, said that she had participated in the rally in order to extend her support for the BJP government's plan to bring in legislation to ban instant triple talaq.

The Supreme Court had earlier struck down triple talaq — the practice of a Muslim man divorcing his wife by uttering the word "talaq" thrice — as "unconstitutional" and suspended it for six months on August 22.

What did the woman allege?

Fayra has alleged that her husband, Danish, was romatically involved with his aunt and had a son with her, as a result of which he used to say that he would give her divorce.

She has also alleges that he used to physically abuse her and their son.

"My husband had an affair with his aunt & even had a son with her. He kept telling me he'll give me a divorce. When I came back from rally he said PM Modi can't do anything to harm him and gave me triple talaq. He beat up my child and me and threw us out of the house (sic)," the victim told ANI.

Husband refutes woman's allegation

Fayra's husband has however refuted her allegations on why he gave her talaq.

"I didn't give her triple talaq. She had an extramarital affair, so I divorced her. Her uncle keeps threatening me. She always wore jeans and things like that. I don't want to keep my wife with me. This has nothing with to do with Modi Ji's rally," Danish said.

However, this is not the first time that a Muslim woman from UP has been abused for supporting and following the prime minister.

In early Sepetember, a 24-year-old woman identified as Nagma Parveen, was thrashed and then thrown out of her in-laws' house in Ballia city near the UP-Bihar border after she made a painting of Modi and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath.

Triple talaq has remained a topic of debate since a long time.

However, as per earlier reports, the central government is likely to introduce legislation to end the practice of instant triple talaq in the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament.
