Based on Chetan Bhagat's debut novel, Five Point Someone, Rajkumar Hirani's 3 Idiots, released in 2009, remains an audience favourite. The film, which hit the theatres years ago, continues to be relatable for many, and the fans have been demanding a sequel for a long, long time. 3 Idiots featured Aamir Khan, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi in the titular roles, and the actors had portrayed a great camaraderie on screen as well as off screen. Scenes from the movie still feature in viral reels, and the songs are still hummed by many. Amidst all the reports and confusion doing the rounds about a sequel, Sharman revealed what is happening and his take on it.
As quoted by Hindustan Times, Sharman spoke about how much he, too, like the audience, wanted a sequel to the movie to happen. However, he revealed that he has not been informed about it yet.
Sharman said, "I so hope that happens, but I have not been informed yet." He added, "On more than a couple of occasions, there has been buzz that the 3 Idiots Sequel is happening. The last time the reports came, it turned out to be for an ad campaign. Let's see, hopefully this time it's true."
There has been a lot of debate on whether or not there is a sequel would it would be a continuation of the previous story or if it would be a fresh story from scratch. Sharman said, "I am in no position to know, but only the master, Raju sir, Abhijat (Joshi) sir and Aamir would be working on it if there is potential."
The actor also slid down memory lane and spoke about how he had become part of the first film. Sharman said, "I was in the gym, building six-pack abs when I got the final call from Raju sir. He told me ab 3 saal tak tu gym ki shakal nahi dekhega."
He further mentioned, "I think of 3 Idiots, and a smile comes on my face. That film felt like a fairytale, from the time I heard the story till today." Sharman revealed, "Style led me to 3 Idiots. Raju sir had seen me in the film and thought that someday he'd cast me in some movie. When we started shooting for 3 Idiots, he mentioned that to me."
There have been reports that have come out earlier stating that the work for a sequel is on. Earlier, Pinkvilla had stated that the film might go on floors from 2026 and will have its original cast, including Kareena Kapoor Khan. None of the cast and crew members, including Rajkumar Hirani or Aamir Khan, has publicly announced anything as yet.
