Who Was C Vikram Singh? Manipur Musician Beaten To Death In Delhi After Objecting To Drinking Outside Home

A 54-year-old Manipuri musician died after he was allegedly beaten by a group of men outside his home in southeast Delhi's Kilokari village after objecting to them drinking and creating a disturbance late at night.

The deceased, identified as C Vikram Singh, had been living in Kilokari for several years. According to police, Singh confronted a group of men who were allegedly drinking alcohol and creating a nuisance outside his apartment in the early hours of Monday. The confrontation reportedly escalated, with the men allegedly assaulting him with punches and blows.

Singh's son, Yaiphaba, rushed him to Holy Family Hospital in Okhla after the assault. However, he later succumbed to his injuries. A hospital report cited haemorrhagic shock caused by blunt force trauma as the cause of death.

Delhi Police have arrested seven men and apprehended a juvenile in connection with the case. The accused, identified as Bharat Kumar, Pramod, Ramzan Khan, Deepanshu, Mohan Vishwakarma, Vijay and Mannu, are reportedly workers at dhabas and food stalls in the area.

The incident has triggered outrage among the Manipuri and wider Northeast community. The North East Students Society, Delhi University (NESSDU), described Singh as a respected musician and called for a swift, fair and thorough investigation into his death.

Singh was also known for his contribution to Manipur's rock music scene. He was the lead guitarist of the legendary band Phoenix in the 1980s and had earlier been associated with bands including Ultra Vires and Eastern Dark. He later moved to Delhi, where he worked as a music teacher.

His death has also drawn condemnation from political leaders and members of the music fraternity, with calls for the authorities to ensure justice and conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal assault.

Police said the investigation into the incident is underway.
