US President Donald Trump on Sunday slammed the Israeli strikes on Beirut's southern suburbs, saying the attacks had come "on a special day" when America and Iran were "close" to a peace deal.
The US President urged all sides to "stand down", while calling for "no more attacks by Israel on Lebanon" or by any other party, including Hezbollah. "This morning's attack on Beirut should not have happened, particularly on a special day when we are so close to a Peace Deal with Iran," Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
"...All sides should stand down. There should be no more attacks by Israel anywhere in Lebanon, but there should also be no more attacks by any other party, including Hezbollah, against Israel," he further said.
While stating that Israel "has the right to defend itself", the US President said that the attack it had responded to was "very small and meaningless" and that no one had been hurt or killed in these. Trump said that the deal could be the beginning of "a long and beautiful peace" in West Asia, urging all parties to not "disrupt the important process."
US President Donald Trump claimed that a peace deal aimed at ending the conflict with Iran could be signed on Sunday. However, Iran has remained cautious and has not echoed the same stance about the agreement.

Speaking about the proposed deal, Trump said the Strait of Hormuz — a crucial global oil shipping route — would be reopened to all countries once the deal is signed. He also suggested that the United States would eventually take control of Iran's nuclear material as part of the arrangement, though no official details have been released.
Iran, however, has played down Trump's timeline. Officials in Tehran said a deal is not expected to be signed immediately, but acknowledged that an agreement could be reached in the coming days if ongoing negotiations continue to move forward.
While hopes for peace are growing, violence has not completely stopped. Fresh explosions were reported in southern Lebanon as Israeli forces continued military operations in the area. Iran has repeatedly said that any ceasefire or truce agreement must also include Lebanon, arguing that regional stability cannot be achieved without addressing the situation there.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed war, peace and diplomacy with US counterpart Donald Trump on Sunday, the Ukrainian presidency said, in what it called a "substantive" conversation on Trump's 80th birthday.
"It was a quite substantive conversation about everything — from birthday wishes to diplomacy and war/peace," Zelensky's adviser Dmytro Lytvyn told journalists, adding that the call lasted "30-35 minutes".
The Israeli military said it was bracing for a possible retaliatory attack "in the coming hours", after carrying out a strike on Beirut's southern suburbs earlier on Sunday.
"Following the IDF strike in Beirut ... the IDF is preparing for potential fire toward the territory of the state of Israel in the coming hours," the military said, without specifying from where the attack was expected.
