'We have decided to part ways': Mouni Roy confirms divorce with Suraj Nambiar; urges media to stop 'fictitious narratives'

Actor Mouni Roy and Suraj Nambiar's four-year-old marriage has been under immense public scrutiny ever since rumours of a separation emerged. On Wednesday, Mouni indirectly addressed the divorce rumours by stating on her Instagram Story that she needs privacy.

And a day later, on Thursday, Mouni Roy officially confirmed her separation from Suraj Nambiar.

Taking to Instagram, she shared a joint statement with Suraj on social media.

In the joint statement, Mouni expressed disappointment over the media's extensive coverage of their relationship and the spread of misleading stories surrounding it.

Mouni said that she and Suraj have amicably decided to part ways, stating that they had mutually chosen to move forward on different paths with mutual respect after reflecting on their changing personal priorities.

Sharing the statement, she wrote in the caption, "Humbly requesting everyone to give us privacy and dignity..."

The statement read, "We note with dismay the unnecessary and intrusive attention into our personal lives by certain quarters of the media. We would like to state that we have decided to part ways and are taking the necessary time to address matters privately and amicably."

Addressing the ongoing chatter, they further wrote, "Attempts have been made to sensationalise our private lives by the circulation of fictitious narratives and blatant falsehoods, which do not reflect the reality of our relationship. After thoughtful reflection on evolving personal priorities, we have mutually chosen to move forward on separate paths with respect and understanding. At this point, we are focused on navigating this phase thoughtfully and privately. We will endeavour to cherish our friendship in times to come. We sincerely appreciate your understanding, respect for our privacy, and the continued support extended to us during this time."

Mouni Roy was spotted with her friends on Friday night while exiting a restaurant, where she avoided the media and paparazzi. Wearing a see-through black gown, Mouni's eyes appeared visibly sad as she made her way towards the car.

Mouni and Suraj's rift

The speculation began after fans noticed that Mouni Roy had either deleted or archived several wedding photographs from her Instagram account. Around the same time, Suraj Nambiar reportedly deactivated or deleted his Instagram profile after allegedly unfollowing the actress. Soon after, rumours about trouble in their marriage began circulating online.

Several unverified reports even claimed that Suraj had cheated on Mouni and allegedly "used" her for "money and fame." However, Mouni later addressed the growing speculation through a statement on Instagram Stories. She wrote, "Humbly requesting all the media houses not to publish false narratives. Give us space and privacy. Thanks," along with a folded hands emoji.

Senior journalist Vickey Lalwani added another layer to the ongoing rumours. According to his report, Mouni and Suraj have allegedly not been staying together for the last six months.

Vickey Lalwani wrote, "Mouni Roy's long-distance marriage with Dubai-based businessman Suraj Nambiar is over. The longing has disappeared, the passion has evaporated, and the fights have escalated. Barring a miracle, the two of them are not getting back together."

He further claimed that Mouni has been changing residences during this period and added that the couple has not officially filed for divorce yet. According to the report, Mouni has also allegedly consulted lawyers regarding the matter.

Vickey Lalwani stated, "Mouni has also been talking to a couple of lawyers. If things proceed fast, a counselling session awaits her and, of course, Suraj as well. So yeah, they haven't applied for divorce as some mediapersons have reported, at least not yet."

The report also hinted at possible reasons behind the alleged issues in their relationship. He wrote, "A source reveals that while he may be loaded with money, Suraj often felt whenever he was in Mumbai that hardly anybody seemed to know him, unlike his wife, who is recognised almost everywhere."

Mouni Roy and Suraj Nambiar's love story

Mouni Roy and Suraj Nambiar got married on January 27, 2022, in Goa in ceremonies that incorporated both Malayali and Bengali traditions. The couple reportedly met through mutual friends during New Year celebrations in Dubai in 2019 and later began dating.
