World No. 1 Novak Djokovic is all set to face off against Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber in the fourth round of the US Open on Monday.
The Serbian recorded a comfortable win over over American big-server and world no. 17 Sam Querrey in round three. Djokovic sealed the match in straight sets 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 to reach the pre-quarters of the US Open for the eighth consecutive year.
"It's peaking at the right time, at the right tournament. This is where I want to play my best tennis. I haven't done as well as I wanted in leadup tournaments, Toronto and Cincinnati. I didn't know how emotionally drained I was in a way until I played Tsonga in Canada and played some great match and I didn't feel I could deliver my best," said the Wimbledon champion.
Djokovic's German opponent Kohlschreiber ousted John Isner 7-6 (4), 4-6, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (4) for the third consecutive time in the third round of the US Open.
"Normally you get a little bit stressed when it comes to a tie-break and you know there are not many chances," said Kohlschreiber. "I mixed it up pretty well with the serve. I didn't go for an ace. I always tried to get a good position in the rally."
The 22nd seed will meet the Serbian for the sixth time on the professional tour. Djokovic leads their head-to-head record 4-1 with consecutive victories in their last three encounters.
Djokovic last defeated Kohlschreiber 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 on the clay courts of the Rome Masters and a 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (3) victory on the hard courts in Indian Wells.
Djokovic and Kohlschreiber will play at the Louis Armstrong Stadium at 10:30 pm IST.
