The strikeforce of Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani is set to add firepower to UruguayReuters

Both Uruguay and Ecuador have been consistent in their CONMEBOL 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign and it needs to be seen now which side has the edge over the other. The two sides clash on Thursday at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, Uruguay.

While Uruguay are second in the table, below Brazil, with 20 points from ten games, Ecuador are third on 17 points from the same number of games.

In their previous meeting in the tournament last year, Ecuador narrowly edged past Uruguay with a 2-1 scoreline. Felipe Caicedo and Fidel Martinez remained the scorers for Ecuador, while Edinson Cavani score the only consolation for the opposition team.

That was just one of the two losses Uruguay have suffered so far in their campaign. This leads us to the big question if the result will remain the same in their return leg fixture on Thursday. Good news for the home side is that Luis Suarez is available and so is Cavani, making the attacking line look formidable already.

With the attacking line sorted, there is another major feat Oscar Tabarez's side have achieved -- the best defensive record so far in the tournament, conceding just seven goals in 10 matches.

Swansea forward Jefferson Montero will be unavailable for Ecuador in the match owing to injury.

Expected starting XI

Ecuador: Dreer; Paredes, Mina, Ayovi, Ramirez; Montero, Orejuela, Noboa, Ibarra; Valencia, Caicedo.

Uruguay vs Ecuador is set for a 8 p.m. UTC-3 (6 p.m. ET, 4:30 a.m. IST [Friday]) kick off on November 10.
