Italian league leaders Inter Milan will look to start the new calendar year on a good note. They take on Empoli in their first Serie A game of 2016 on Wednesday.

Roberto Mancini's side have had a good start to their season, as they have recorded 11 wins from 17 games in the league so far. They have suffered only three losses this season, which includes a 2-1 defeat to Lazio in the final league match of 2015.

Inter Milan also lost to French giants PSG 1-0 in a friendly match on 30 December, 2015, in Doha. Mancini's side will now be looking to overcome their recent poor results with a win over Empoli, as they look to lift the Serie A title for the first time after the 2009-10 season.

Inter's opponents, Empoli, are currently eighth in the Italian league, and although they have suffered six defeats this season, their recent form in the league says something else. The Florence-based outfit have won all of their previous four league games, and are steadily climbing up the table. And Inter have to be aware of that.

Stevan Jovetic, who has been one of the key players in Inter's attacking front this season, says there is still room for improvement for the team. "We are doing well and have good players, but we can still improve more in the next games," the striker told SC. "It is still too early to talk about the title but our target is to be in the top three and get back into the Champions League.

"Then in April or May we will see where we are and what else we can do. It is always important when you have the support of the manager and I will try my best on the pitch to say thank you to him."
