Set against the backdrop of 50s, "Lootera" is an upcoming Bollywood period romantic drama directed by "Udaan" fame Vikramaditya Motwane and jointly produced by Ekta Kapoor, Anurag Kashyap and Vikas Bahl.

"Lootera" is rumoured to be based on O.Henry's short story 'The Last Leaf'. The music and background score for the film is composed by Amit Trivedi. The lyrics is penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya.

Speaking about her role in the movie, Sonakshi had told The Hindu, "I play a Bengali girl. It's an authentic Bengali look of the Fifties that I am sporting and they (the director and designer Suvarna) have taken a lot of trouble to go through the kind of clothes, jewellery, hair and make-up done in that era. We have tried to replicate it. Vikramaditya has kept the make-up simple with only the kajal, kumkum, and some laali on the lips which is what the women used to do then."

"Lootera" is slated for release on 5 July. The trailer of the movie, which seemed promising, was released on15 Mar 2013 .
