Much of Season 2 of "The Affair" has preoccupied itself with Noah and Alison's relationship and little about the death of Scotty Lockhart. At this point, it almost seems secondary to the plot. However, the Season 2 finale will remind fans about the murder mystery, through which, we are offered varied and differing perspectives.
Season 2 Episode 12 of the drama series depicts two major events: Noah Solloway's (Dominic West) trial in the present and Cole Lockhart's (Joshua Jackson) wedding in Montauk.
Scotty Lockhart's Death
The promos for the upcoming episode depict the events that led upto Scotty Lockhart's death. In the video clip, Scotty shows up at Cole's wedding and asks his elder brother about the partnership details of the newly acquired Lobster Roll in Montauk. At this point, an angry Cole asks his brother to go back to rehab and says in very plain words that he wouldn't partner with Scotty at all.
A few clips later, Noah's trial is depicted. According to Season 2 Episode 12 synopsis, the verdict for Scotty's murder will be delivered in the season finale. However, it is one that's shocking. In the promo, Alison (Ruth Wilson) is stunned and can barely speak as she sits in the courtroom.
It is difficult to predict if Noah get's acquitted. To be sure, his friend Max's statement in court makes Noah seem like the killer. Nevertheless, the synopsis also hints at a "shocking event" after a surprising turn in Noah's trial. If indeed the "Descent" author is sentenced, we doubt if Noah and Alison will remain together.
Noah and Alison
In Season 2 finale, it appears that Alison does move to Montauk. The promo for the finale includes a brief clip in which Noah greets his fiancée at the docks. However, his demeanour is tinged with inexplicable sadness. At this juncture, he finds a friend in his ex-wife, Helen, who is also in Montauk at the same time as he.
Noah confides in Helen and says that he never wanted a kid with Alison, and reveals that he thought of it as a trap to stop him from going back to Helen. In any case, this is a clear indication that Noah is contemplating his decision to marry Alison.
In the season finale, Alison tells Noah that she's kept secrets from him and doesn't want to hold on to them anymore. In the promo, she says that she wants to tell Noah everything.
However, can Noah handle the truth about Joanie's father? Will the two survive as a couple at the end of Season 2?

Season 2 ends as events set in motion long ago come to their conclusion. A startling admission causes Noah to withdraw from his new life. Meanwhile, Alison is honest with Noah and herself; a dispute between Cole and Scotty is followed by tragedy; and a turn in Noah's trial results in a shocking event.
