Swedish auto manufacturer Volvo Cars will launch the latest variant of Volvo V40 in India by March 2013.

Initially showcased at the recent Paris Auto show this week, Volvo V40 Cross Country is the third variant of the V40 hatch back. The luxury vehicle has made the entry to the motor world 15 years after V70 Cross Country hit the market in 1997.

The cross over Version of V40 hatch back is positioned to compete with Mercedes B-Class and the BMW X1, and so it could be priced at the same range. According to CarTrade, the car is expected to be priced in the ₹3 million bracket.

The next-generation V40 Cross Country packs a high-performance turbocharged T5 five-cylinder engine which accelerates from 0-60 mph in 6.1 seconds. The unique design of the latest variant includes contrasting front and rear bumpers, honeycomb mesh grille, upright day-running lights and an integrated skid plate.

V40 Cross Country is the only car in the same class to be available with Pedestrian Detection technology, the company said. The car sports alloy wheels upto 19 inches and has a sporty R-Design model. Among the car's safety features are Collision Alert, Pedestrian Airbag Technology, Bending Xenon Headlamps, and standard airbags. The car is likely to be brought in India as completely built units (CBS).

This is not the first Volvo car which will hit the domestic auto market. The Swedish car makers had previously launched S60, S80 and SUV-XC60. The upcoming launch of the Volvo V40 will further raise the competition among international players in the country like Mercedes and BMW.
