A new prototype of what is believed to be the 1.4 TSI variant of the Polo hatchback has been photographed in India, indicating that Volkswagen is planning to introduce another variant of the Polo hatchback in India.

The German car-maker is also testing the powerful hatchback, the Polo GTI, in India. The latest spy shots of the Polo 1.4 TSI come from AutoBlog India. The test mule is seen wearing test number plates without camouflage. The spotted test mule of the Polo 1.4 TSI was seen with BlueMotion stickers, indicating that when launched, the Polo's new variant could get Volkswagen's BlueMotion technology. The BlueMotion technology helps in better fuel efficiency.

Under the hood, the Polo 1.4 TSI gets 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that churns out 145bhp mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The car can reportedly attain 0-100 kmph in 8.0 seconds. In India, the Volkswagen Polo 1.4 TSI is likely to be slotted between the Polo GT and the upcoming Polo GTI. In India, the Polo TSI would rival Fiat Abarth Punto. According to the original publisher of the spy shots, the Polo TSI could come to the Indian market within four months.

Volkswagen is also testing the Polo GTI in India for quite some time now. Already caught on camera several times, the GTI is powered by a 1.8-litre four-cylinder TSI petrol mill that can churn out 192bhp of power with seven-speed DSG gearbox. It can attain 0-100 kmph in 6.7 seconds before hitting a top speed of 236 kmph.
