A prototype of Volkswagen's soon-to-be-unveiled Ameo compact sedan has been filmed in a new video while it was undergoing its usual test runs in the country, not long after the German auto maker revealed the name of the model.

To be unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016 in Greater Noida in the first week of February, Volkswagen Ameo -- the compact sedan based on the PQ24 platform of Vento -- will be produced at the company's Chakan facility. In the latest video uploaded by Overdrive, while we can't really pull anything much, it can give us a sense of the road presence and the overall proportion of the upcoming Ameo.

To be pitted against the segment front runners like Maruti Suzuki Swift, Tata Zest, Ford Figo Aspire and Honda Amaze, Ameo is expected to borrow styling and design features from its Vento and Polo siblings. Powering the Ameo is likely to be the current Polo engines, which include the 1.2-litre MPI and TSI petrol engines and the 1.5-diesel unit. While the petrol 1.2-litre MPI engine that can churn out a power of 74bhp@ 5,400 rpm and a torque of 110 Nm @ 3,750 rpm, the diesel 1.5-litre can generate 88.7bhp @ 4,200 rpm and 230 Nm of torque at 1,500-2,500 rpm.

Volkswagen Ameo, the India-specific compact sedan, is expected to get a price tag in the range of Rs 5-8 lakh and is likely to sit between the Polo hatchback and Vento sedan. For the development of new compact sedan Ameo, Volkswagen has invested Rs 720 crore. The investment is also being used for setting up of new equipment and increasing production of the model.
