The Technical Preview version of VLC Player featuring the 360-degree video and photo playback functionality is now live. The latest edition of VLC player is applicable to Apple Mac and Microsoft Windows platforms.

The latest preview version lets users play all their 360-degree videos and images directly with the VLC player. However, the full-fledged functionality with respect to the 360-degree video/image playback can be checked out in the upcoming VLC 3.0 release. As of now, only a 'Preview' of the 360-degree playback has been made available by VideoLAN (brains behind VLC Player).

At this juncture, if you are looking at testing out the VLC Player 360-degree video/image playback functionality, then the below aspects are supported in the Technical Preview version:

  • Playback of 360-degree Videos following the Spatial Video spec
  • Playback of 360-degree Photos and Panoramas following the Spherical spec
  • Display modes with Zoom, Little planet and Reverse little planet
  • Ability to more effectively control playback of 360-degree videos and images

Now, the Technical Preview of VLC Player featuring the 360-degree video/images playback is available for users using Windows 7 or higher. Click here to download. Apple Mac owners using Mac OS 10.10 or above can download the Technical Preview VLC Player from here.
