Vishal Krishna starrer "Aambala" released on 15 January has opened to a decent response at international box office but has failed to beat the record of the actor's previous movie "Poojai".

Out of few centres, "Aambala" has done good business in Malaysia. The movie, ranked at 9th position, earned 134,490 MYR (₹23.28 lakh) in its first weekend. It was released in 10 screens.

In the US box office, "Aambala" - ranked at 92nd position - has made $2,384 (₹1.47 lakh). It was released only in one screen because the international circuits were dominated by Shankar's "I" that was released in three languages.

Hence, "Aambala" did not get enough screens. However, the screen count might be increased in the coming days once the craze around "I" slows down.

"Aambala" has failed to beat the record of Vishal's earlier movie "Poojai" at the US and Malaysia. The film released during Diwali along with Vijay's "Kaththi", had earned $6,125 (₹3.75 lakh) from 15 screens in the US and 147,898 MYR (₹25.46 lakh) from 13 screens in Malaysia.

"Aambala", which features Hansika Motwani in the female lead role, got negative reviews from critics but has managed to impress a section of the audience. The Tamil movie earned ₹63.23 lakh in Chennai in the first weekend.

The movie is an action entertainer loaded with all the necessary masala elements. "Aambala" boasts of a big supporting cast like Prabhu, Ramya Krishnan, Kiran Rathod, Aishwarya, Vaibhav and Santhanam.
