The makers of Ilayathalapathy Vijay's "Theri" seem to be confused regarding the film's release date. The original plan was to release the movie on 14 April to coincide with the celebrations of Tamil New Year.

But the forthcoming Tamil Nadu general election is becoming a hurdle in the plans. The polls for 234 constituencies are scheduled to be held in April 2016 and releasing a movie at the same time will have its own consequences as people and media will be more interested in elections than movies. Hence, the date is reportedly undergoing a change.

Producer Kalaipuli S Dhanu has two options in his hand: either the movie release has to be postponed or it has to be advanced. The delay in "Theri" will affect the plans of his other project "Kabali" starring superstar Rajinikanth and Radhika Apte as the makers want it to hit the screens in May.

Hence, the best option for Kalaipuli S Dhanu is to advance the release date. It means the Tamil movie has to hit the screens in March even though it is examination season in the state.

The shooting of "Theri" was completed a few days ago hence, the team has ample time to complete the post-production works if the makers want to release the Tamil movie in March. However, a final call on the same will be taken soon and it is expected to be announced with the teaser release.

The teaser of "Theri" will be out on 26 January for the Republic Day celebrations. Originally, the video-clip was supposed to be released on 14 January for Pongal, but the plans underwent changes as the shooting was not completed on time.

"Theri" is an action thriller written and directed by Atlee Kumar. The film features Samantha and Amy Jackson in the female lead roles.
