Vijay's "Jilla" has been officially confirmed to release for Pongal next year.

Actor Jithan Ramesh, son of RB Choudary whose banner is producing "Jilla", confirmed the film's release on his twitter page.

Directed by debutant RT Nesan, "Jilla" has Malayalam actor Mohanlal sharing screen space with Vijay for the first time. The film also has yesteryear actress Poornima Bhagyaraj in a pivotal role.

Actress Kajal Aggarwal has been paired up with Vijay for the second time post the success of their 2012-release "Thuppakki."

The shooting of "Jilla" is almost complete, with only a few patchwork scenes left. However, the film's post production work has already started to ensure that the film releases as per the deadline. According to reports, producer RB Choudary is planning to get the film censored by December end.

Expectations are high for the film as it is a Vijay starrer. "Jilla" is also generating a lot of buzz in Kerala as the film has Mohanlal, one of the most popular actors of Malayalam cinema.

The distribution rights for the commercial entertainer have been sold for all areas. Shibu of Thameens Films, a veteran Kerala distributor, has purchased the film's distribution rights for the Chennai city. Cosmo Shiva has bought the film's Coimbatore distribution rights and Boss Films have acquired the Trichy distribution rights.

Impressed with the film, Mohanlal has reportedly bought the Kerala distribution rights. Yahaya Bhai & associates has purchased the distribution rights for NSC and overseas markets.

The film, which is gearing up to hit the screens in January, will not have a solo release. Ajith's "Veeram" is also officially confirmed to release a few days ahead of Pongal, on 10 January. Rajinikanth's "Kochadaiiyaan" is also heading for a January release.

With three biggies lined up around the same time, it will be difficult for the makers to get enough number of screens. Buzz is that one of the films will back out of the race. But, it is not clear as to which star's film will hit theatres as per their schedule and which will be delayed.
