Louis Van Gaal demanded a response after that debacle against Arsenal, and the Manchester United players certainly answered their manager's call, putting on an as-assured-as-they-come performance to ease past Everton 3-0 in the English Premier League.
It wasn't quite as dramatic as that Arsenal 3-0 win over United, but Wayne Rooney and co. controlled the game from minute one to pick up their first win at Goodison Park in four years.
Rooney was one of the scorers for Manchester United, adding the gloss after Morgan Schneiderlin and Ander Herrera had put their team 2-0 in front by halftime.
It was a dominant start from Manchester United, nothing like the one at the Emirates, and they were duly rewarded when Schneiderlin opened the scoring on 18 minutes. A well-worked short corner routine saw the ball finally break to Schneiderlin at the back post, and the France international provided a nice finish past Tim Howard.
It only got worse for Everton as Herrera made it 2-0 four minutes later, getting on the end of a nice move from Manchester United, albeit helped out by a rash decision from Seamus Coleman. Marcos Rojo was the provider from the left, whipping in an inch-perfect cross for Herrera, left all alone, to head home from seven yards.
Try as they might Everton, mourning the loss of legend Howard Kendall, just could not get into the game, and despite a concerted effort in the second half, it was their former player Rooney who finished the match off.
Phil Jagielka gave the ball away in a dangerous area, with Schneiderlin playing the ball to Herrera on the right. The Spaniard, in turn, slipped in a quick through ball to Rooney, who ran ahead, took a nice touch and finished with aplomb to end a long away-goal drought in the Premier League.
