Arya starrer "Vasuvum Saravananum Onna Padichavanga" (VSOP) got off to an impressive start at the Tamil Nadu box office, despite facing competition from SImbu's "Vaalu".

Released on 14 August, "VSOP" got mixed reviews. On its opening day, it did enjoy good occupancy and on the next day, its business soared being a holiday (Independence Day). The film retained the same momentum on Sunday also.

According to Behindwoods, "VSOP" grossed Rs. 6.5 crore in its opening weekend in the state. This is a good number for a movie starring Arya, believe trade analysts. The chemistry between Arya and Santhanam has worked big time for the movie.

It is interesting to see how "VSOP does in the coming days. The general trend is movies starring popular actors perform well in the first weekend but if the content of the movies fails to impress movie goers, the movies disappear without leaving a trace.

Hence, we should wait and see whether there will be good turnout for "VSOP" in the weeks to come. The movie has been written and directed by M Rajesh of "Boss Engira Bhaskaran" and "Oru Kal Oru Kannadi" fame. Bhanu, Karunakaran, Vidyullekha Raman, Siddharth Vipin, Renuka, Brindha Das, Surekha and others have acted in the film produced by Arya himself.

Simbu's "Vaalu" emerged as the biggest movie last weekend at the Tamil Nadu box office. The movie, which has Hansika Motwani and Santhanam in the cast, raked in Rs. 8.5 crore in its first weekend.
