Varun Dhawan could soon be seen sharing screen space with Saif Ali Khan in a Karan Johar film.

Rumour has it that Dhawan and Saif are in consideration for a film, set to be directed by Mohit Suri of "Aashiqui 2" fame.

Suri, whose "Ek Villain" is set to release in June, is said to have impressed Johar with the promos of the Shraddha Kapoor-Sidharth Malhotra starrer. The filmmaker signed Suri for the project, which will have Saif and Dhawan as leads and will be produced by Dharma Productions.

"Karan is in advance talks with both Saif and Varun. The story needs two male actors with an appreciable age difference between them. The modalities are being worked out," a source revealed to Mumbai Mirror.

The film in question is expected to start rolling after Suri completes his next "Hamari Adhuri Kahani" with Vidya Balan and Emraan Hashmi.

Since the "Cocktail" star and Dhawan have not been seen together yet, the bromance could be a breath of fresh air for movie-goers. However, the actress of the upcoming film is yet to be decided.

Johar has previously successfully collaborated with Saif in "Kal Ho Naa Ho" (2003) and this will be the second film for the duo. Meanwhile, Johar and Dhawan will be teaming up for the third time after "Student of the Year" and the upcoming film "Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania." Much like Alia Bhatt and Malhotra, Dhawan seems to have been added to the filmmaker's preffered list of young actors.

With Dhawan, Bhatt and Malhotra, looks the filmmaker has lost his fondness for once favourite Imran Khan. The "Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naa" actor has worked in several films under Dharma productions. But recent reports have hinted at a strain in Johar and Imran's relation, due to the poor fate of the latter's films, which Johar has produced.

The filmmaker's absence from Imran's wife Avantika's baby shower further amplified rumours of the tension between the duo.

But Johar has now dismissed the strain reports between him and Imran as 'ridiculous'.

"We are close professionally and personally also. I am close to both Imran and Avantika (Imran's wife). Both are extremely dear to me and will continue to be. The reports made no sense to me... It is ridiculous," PTI quoted Johar.
