Last year, Dharma Productions had announced that Karan Johar and Rohit Shetty will come together for the remake of "Ram Lakhan." But, there were no official announcements regarding the film's making after that.

The buzz was that Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra might star in the film. It was said that in the remake, Sidharth would reprise Jackie Shroff's role as Ram, while Varun would play Lakhan played by Anil Kapoor.

But, at a recent conversation with Varun, he slammed the news saying he was not approached for the role."No, I haven't been offered that movie. I would love to work with Rohit sir again. But I think he has other plans for that film and my slate for next year is already full," Varun told DNA.

Currently, Varun is working in too many projects which are expected to release next year. He is shooting for his brother Rohit Dhawan's flick "Dishoom". He has also signed Karan Johar's "Shuddhi" opposite Alia Bhatt.

Apart from Varun and Sidharth, there were other names which were making the rounds for the lead roles. Initially, it was Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgn who were in the news for these roles.Later, "Gunday" actors Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh's names did the rounds.

Even Anil Kapoor hinted at Ranveer – who played his son in "Dil Dhadakne Do" – when asked about who would be perfect for his 'Lakhan' character. Then, Hrithik Roshan and Abhishek Bachchan were rumoured to be roped in to play the central characters.
