Season 7 of "The Vampire Diaries" will see Damon and Stefan adjusting to a new life in Mystic Falls, the former attempting to move on in life without his lover Elena by his side, and the latter trying to win over Caroline.

But the presence of their mother Lily Salvatore is going to bring more trouble than the brothers had anticipated.

Season 6 finale of "The Vampire Diaries" saw Lily Salvatore reuniting with her travelling companions, the heretics, and this is going to cause a lot of friction between Lily and her sons. At one point she will even exile Damon from Mystic Falls, and season 7 will see Lily taking over the Salvatore mansion. This will force the brothers to seek refuge at Tyler's house.

"It teaches them a lot about their relationship with each other, their relationship they always wanted with her, and then it puts them in a situation of, are they going to make amends with this woman or are they going to take her down?" executive producer Julie Plec previewed, according to Buddy TV.

Fans of "The Vampire Diaries" are eager to see how season 7 will unfold, especially as Nina Dobrev is no longer a part of the show. Elena has always been the voice of reason for Damon, and now Kat Graham's Bonnie will take up the role.

"They really, really found a deep friendship with each other, which is surprising, considering how little respect they had for each other leading up to that situation," Plec said of Bonnie and Damon. "Now, they still have that, but there's this underlying resentment on both sides."

Bonnie is going to be guilty that Elena sacrificed her life so that she could have a full life. Although Damon, too, chose to save Bonnie when he had a chance to let her die, he is not going to waste an opportunity to remind her of the big deed he did.

And if Damon and Bonnie want to save their relationship, they will have to work out their issues, previewed Plec.

"The Vampire Diaries" returns to The CW in October.
