Season six premiere of "The Vampire Diaries" is months away, but theories on what to expect when the series returns has only gained momentum ever since season five ended last month.

Season five ended with the Other Side collapsing with Damon and Bonnie, played by Ian Somerhalder and Kat Graham respectively, trapped inside it. Mystic Falls is also not as safe as it used to be, as Markos and his band of Travelers used Stefan and Elena's doppelganger blood to take over the town and convert it into a magic-free zone.

Episode one of the upcoming season is a guaranteed emotional roller coaster, and Nina Dobrev, who plays Elena in the vampire series, has a word of advice for her character.

"Run," Dobrev told Buzzfeed of what she'd like to tell Elena. "Like the wind. Get the [expletive] out of that town."

Season six will deal with the battle between "good and evil within themselves, and their journey back to each other to reclaim their home," and speculations are rife that Elena will die within the first few episodes.

Entertainment website Bustle suspects that Elena's death will take her back to Damon. It is still not known where Damon and Bonnie are headed, but the website believes that Elena will be equipped with a plan to bring back her one true love, as he has always put her before everything else.

Elena and Damon's love affair has been a toxic one, but the last thing he said to her before vanishing into oblivion is that he loves her.

"You are by far the greatest thing that has happened. ... The fact that I got to die knowing I was loved... is the epitome of a fulfilled life. ... It is never going to get better than this. I peaked," Damon's ghost says to Elena in the season five finale.

Interestingly, Dobrev too hinted at dying when she told Entertainment Weekly that she wants closure for her character. It could either be death, or Elena will get whatever she has ever wanted, Dobrev said.

"She's really blossomed into this strong woman since the show began, so I'm excited to see her hopefully have a departure and a closure from this world. Hopefully that means she'll get everything she ever wanted, which was really just a family, and stability, and love, and her friends, and everyone's safety," she said.

Season 6 of "The Vampire Diaries" will premiere on The CW on October 2 at 8 p.m. ET.
