India continued its medal-winning run at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on October 3, with several athletes competing in medal events across disciplines.

One of the biggest highlights of the day came in the men's cricket final, where India defeated arch-rivals Pakistan by 19 runs to win the gold medal. India posted 211/6 in 20 overs after being asked to bat first, with Abhishek Sharma scoring a quickfire 61 off 28 balls and Tilak Varma remaining unbeaten on 51 off 22 balls.

Pakistan, chasing 212, finished at 192/6 despite a determined 96 from Hasan Nawaz. India's bowlers kept taking wickets at crucial moments to prevent Pakistan from completing the chase and secured another gold medal in the men's cricket competition.

The victory also completed a cricket gold-medal double for India at the Asian Games. The Indian women's team had earlier defeated Sri Lanka by 147 runs to win gold.

Kumkum Mohod wins historic archery gold

India also celebrated a historic performance in women's recurve archery, with Kumkum Anil Mohod winning the individual gold medal. Her victory added another major medal to India's campaign and also secured her a quota place for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.

In the men's recurve event, Neeraj Chauhan won a bronze medal, further adding to India's medal tally.

Pranavi Urs wins golf gold

Golfer Pranavi Urs also created history by winning gold in the women's individual event. The Indian women's golf team added a silver medal, giving India further success in the sport.

India entered the final stretch of the Asian Games with athletes competing in wrestling, archery, hockey, shooting, badminton and other disciplines. The men's hockey team was also scheduled to play Malaysia in the gold-medal match on October 3.

With several medal events taking place on the concluding day, India continued to add to its overall tally as the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games moved towards the closing ceremony.

Following India's 19-run victory over Pakistan in the final, Jay Shah congratulated the Indian players during the medal ceremony. As Shah interacted with members of the gold-medal-winning squad, Sooryavanshi touched his feet as a traditional gesture of respect towards an elder.

India put up a formidable 211/6 in 20 overs after being sent in to bat. Pakistan fought back during the chase but managed to score 192/6 in their allotted 20 overs, handing India a 19-run victory and the gold medal.

The Indian innings was powered by impressive knocks from Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma. Abhishek scored 61 runs, while Tilak remained unbeaten on 51 off 22 balls as India posted the highest total of the men's competition.

For Sooryavanshi, the gold-medal triumph capped a memorable Asian Games campaign. The 15-year-old has been one of the young players attracting significant attention, and his presence in the Indian squad added to the spotlight surrounding the final.

The victory also completed a cricket gold-medal double for India at the 2026 Asian Games, with the women's team having earlier secured gold.

The medal ceremony brought the Indian players together to celebrate their victory, with Sooryavanshi's gesture towards Jay Shah becoming a memorable moment from the celebrations.
