In the wake of the massive flooding in northern India, celebrities from the Indian film industry have expressed their support and solidarity for the flood-affected victims.

Heavy rains have triggered floods and landslides across several states in north India. Uttarakhand is the worst-hit of all states with its death toll at 680. Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Vijay Bahuguna said on Sunday that the toll might be 1,000 plus.

Rescue operations has been continuing non-stop to help the flood victims. More than 10,000 people are still trapped in various areas including Gangotri, Joshimath and Badrinath. Rescue teams are racing against time in the wake of a bad weather forecast from Monday (24 June).

Support for the flood-victims is pouring in from all quarters, including from members of the India film fraternity.

Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Sonakshi Sinha, Ranveer Singh, Farhan Akhtar, Pawan Kalyan and Yami Gautham are among the celebrities who have expressed their support, love and prayers for the victims in flood-affected areas.

Shah Rukh Khan tweeted: "As insignificant as we are against Nature's fury, a prayer of Hope for all suffering in Uttarakhand. May Allah give them strength & safety."

Amitabh Bachchan: "A moment of prayer for those that suffered the floods in Uttarakhand. Many stuck, many lost. Army doing incredible job! Salute."

Sonakshi Sinha and Ranveer Singh: The "Lootera" stars expressed their solidarity for the state of Uttarakhand.

Sonakshi requested everybody to come forward and help the victims. "Please come forward to help. As long as we are all together nothing can stop us as a country," the actress was quoted as saying by Indo-Asian News Service.

Sonakshi's father Chatrughan Sinha has donated a sum of ₹50 lakh for the rehabilitation of the flood victims.

Farhan Akhtar: The "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" actor has showered his sympathies for the flood victims. Even as he is busy promoting his film, he still keeps tab on the rescue operations being carried out in Uttarakhand.

"The govt should request private air charter co's and owners to send their choppers in to speed up rescue operations. Only option, I feel," the actor tweeted few days ago.

Pawan Kalyan: South actor Pawan Kalyan has reportedly donated ₹20 lakh for the rehabilitation of flood-affected victims. The actor is also said to have urged other people to contribute for the disaster-stricken state.

Film Director and Producer Onir tweeted: "Time for the government and all of us reflect how nature lashes back if we continue to destroy it. Commendable work done by the Army to rescue people. We as a people of the same nation need to get together and support those who have lost everything in this calamity. We have to help them rebuild their lives. It is not only the government's responsibility."
