The ongoing student protest in Jharkhand over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations has intensified, with demonstrators in Ranchi declaring they will continue their agitation until the state government orders a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the controversy.
The agitation, led by aspirants of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) examinations, has entered its second week. Protesters allege large-scale irregularities, lack of transparency and corruption in the recruitment process, and are demanding cancellation of the 14th JPSC Combined Preliminary Examination along with a court-monitored CBI investigation.
Student leaders have warned that the protest will not be withdrawn unless the government formally announces a CBI inquiry. They have also rejected assurances of an internal investigation, saying they have lost confidence in the existing mechanism and want an independent agency to investigate the alleged recruitment scam.
The protesters have announced plans to intensify their movement with a Tiranga March and a statewide gherao of the Jharkhand Assembly on August 10, if their demands remain unmet. The agitation has drawn widespread support from students across the state and has emerged as one of the biggest youth-led protests in recent years.
The controversy centres on alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the JPSC and JSSC. Students claim deserving candidates have been denied fair opportunities due to alleged manipulation in the selection process and are demanding systemic reforms to ensure transparency in future recruitments.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren has said the state government is taking the matter "very seriously" and assured students that appropriate action would be taken within the framework of the Constitution and the law. However, protesters insist that only a CBI investigation can restore confidence in the recruitment process.
