The Pakistani militant who was captured on Wednesday after he ambushed a BSF convoy on the Jammu-Srinagar Highway in Udhampur district said it is "fun killing Hindus". In the attack, two BSF jawans were killed and many others injured.
The militant, who has been identified as Mohammed Naved alias Qasim Khan, is suspected to be a member of Lashkar-e-Taiba -- one of the major active terrorist groups in South Asia. Earlier, the media had reported his name as Usman.
"I came to kill Hindus... I am from Pakistan and my partner was killed in the firing, but I escaped. Had I been killed, it would have been Allah's doing. There is fun in doing this," PTI quoted Qasim as saying.
Qasim and his accomplice had sneaked into India along with three other militants -- the ones that attacked a passenger bus and a police station in Gurdaspur in Punjab on 27 July. At least seven people, including three constables and Superintendent of Police Baljeet Singh, had been killed in that attack.
A resident of Ghulam Mustafabad area in Faisalabad, Qasim said he and the other terrorists had come to India 12 days ago. "It has been 12 days since I came here. We walked all days in the jungle," he said.
He had earlier said he was in his early 20s, but later claimed to be only 16 years old.
When Qasim and his aides attacked the BSF convoy on Wednesday morning, the BSF soldiers retaliated and killed one militant, while Qasim managed to escape taking three hostages. Later, the hostages overpowered him, and he was captured alive by the security forces.
The people who were held hostage said Qasim wanted them to take him out of the area so that he could return to Pakistan.
Qasim has been compared to the 26/11 attacker Ajmal Kasab, who was captured alive and convicted for the carnage and hanged to death on 21 November, 2012 in Yerwada Central Jail.
