In a shocking incident in Kolkata, two teenage girls jumped off the rooftop of an 18-storey apartment block in the city after having an argument with their guardian on Tuesday evening.

The girls' dead bodies were found in the courtyard of a posh housing complex in the southern fringe of the city, Press Trust of India reported.

According to police, the girls are identified as Sabiba Chandana and Neha Panjari both aged 15 and students of class IX of B.D. Memorial International School in Narendrapur.

Sabiba was a resident of the Upohar Housing Complex at Panchasayar near East Jadavpur police station and Neha was a resident of Bansdroni in Tollygunge, Kolkata. On Tuesday, Neha had come to Sabiba's home.

"A scream sound came; it was heard by the guard. When he came here, he found that the dead bodies of two girls was lying here... police investigation is going on," NDTV quoted Sujay Chandra, Deputy Commissioner, South, Kolkata Police as saying.

No suicide note was found.

Police claimed that there was some tension between Sabiba's parents and the girls over their friendship. According to reports, Sabiba parents scolded her in front of Neha for coming late from school triggering an argument between them.

"The girls were rushed to Peerless Hospital where the doctors declared them brought dead. It appears that they fell from the rooftop. The incident is really tragic," Deccan Chronicle quoted Chandra as saying.

The incident took place almost a week after an aged woman and her two daughters jumped off from a 36-storey residential tower in Kolkata after the death of her 91-year-old husband.
