Two piers of the Kollidam bridge collapsed in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu and was washed away in the flooded Cauvery river basin on Saturday. The bridge that connects Srirangam with the mainland had developed a major crack due to the heavy flow of water. No casualties have been reported. Kollidam bridge was built during the British era.

Tamil Nadu has been witnessing heavy rainfall for the last two weeks. Multiple agencies, including Indian Army personnel are involved in the operation.
