First, Real Madrid overcame a deficit against Wolfsburg and made it to the semifinal of the UEFA Champions League, and then, Atletico Madrid did the same, with it knocking Barcelona out of Europe's elite tournament.

Barcelona won 2-1 in the first leg of the semifinal against 10-man Atletico Madrid. Antoine Griezmann scored two unasnwered goals in the second leg at the Vicente Calderon, Wednesday to guide Atletico through.

Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar, who have scored 107 goals between them in this season, could not make an impact in the game despite having a one goal cushion over their opponents from the first leg.

Atletico Madrid joined Real Madrid, Manchester City and Bayern Munich as the semifinalists for this season.
