Koraput, June 09 (ANI): Twelve rebels of a hardcore Maoist organisation, Communist Party of India (Maoist), surrendered before police in Koraput district of Odisha. The police said their case was being recommended for rehabilitation under the surrender policy of Odisha government. All the surrendered Maoists hailed from Narayanpatna area, which has been a Maoist stronghold. Police, meanwhile, have appealed all Maoists and their associates to shun violence or face stern action in the coming days. Maoists say they are fighting for the rights of poor farmers and landless labourers. Thousands have been killed in the insurgency since the late 1960s.
