The Delhi Traffic Police on Tuesday issued a traffic advisory ahead of a demonstration and rally at Kisan Ghat, warning commuters of possible restrictions and diversions on several key roads in central Delhi as hundreds of farmers march towards the national capital to protest the proposed India-US trade agreement.
The latest wave of the farmers' protest has reignited, with thousands of farmers from Punjab and Haryana gathering at the Shambhu border before heading to Delhi. Farmer unions claim the proposed trade deal could flood Indian markets with cheaper agricultural imports, threatening the livelihoods of local farmers.
According to the traffic advisory, special traffic arrangements will be implemented from 8:30 a.m. onwards, on a need basis, to ensure smooth vehicular movement and maintain public safety during the protest, which is being organised by the Desh Bachao Morcha at Kisan Ghat.
In a post on X, the Delhi Traffic Police said: "In view of the Demonstration/Protest/Rally at Kisan Ghat, New Delhi on 21.07.2026, traffic restrictions and diversions may be imposed from 08:30 AM onwards on need basis."
Commuters have been advised to avoid routes around Satyagrah Marg, Velodrome Road, Rajghat DTC Depot Road and adjoining areas, as traffic diversions may be enforced depending on the situation on the ground.
Diversions may be introduced from key junctions, including Delhi Gate, Rajghat Crossing, Guru Nanak Chowk, Shantivan Chowk, Rajghat DTC Depot and IP Flyover, while roads likely to be affected include Satyagrah Marg, Velodrome Road, Rajghat DTC Depot Road, Rajghat DTC Bypass Road and nearby stretches.
The traffic police urged people travelling to the airport, railway stations and surrounding areas to plan their journeys in advance to avoid delays. It also advised commuters to follow directions issued by traffic personnel, park only in designated areas, avoid roadside parking, and use navigation apps for real-time traffic updates.
