Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) launched the new avatar of its popular MPV, the Innova, in India in May and the new version continues to fetch volume sales, just like its predecessor. Within weeks of launch, the waiting period for the new MPV shot up to three months. Now, it looks like TKM has managed to cut short the waiting period.

"The Crysta still has a waiting period of a month in certain locations in the country and we are trying our best to bring this further down so that our customers don't have to wait too long," the company said in a statement.

In October 2016, Toyota Kirloskar Motor sold a total of 11,651 units in the domestic market, in which the major contribution is from the Innova Crysta. The MPV has been recording steady sales of over 7,000 units per month. Despite being priced higher than its predecessor, Innova Crysta is one of the most-selling UVs in the country. The MPV registered 45 percent growth from May to October 2016 as compared to the sale of the Innova in the same period last year.

TKM is expected to further increase the sale of Innova Crysta, with its recently-launched petrol version. "In the last two months, our production at plant has been lower than what we had planned due to the unforeseen holidays that were called on account of the unrest in Bangalore in the month of September and also because of the list of festival holidays in October. This has had an impact on our overall sales. However, we have resumed production in full swing in November," said N. Raja, director and senior vice president, sales & marketing, at TKM.

Under the hood, Innova Crysta petrol is powered by an in-line 4-cyl 2.7-litre unit that can churn out 164bhp at 5,200 rpm and 250Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. The diesel variants of the Innova Crysta are sold with 2.4-litre and 2.8-litre diesel engines. The 2,393cc diesel engine develops 148bhp of power and 243Nm of torque, while the 2,755cc mill churns out 172bhp and 360Nm of torque. The transmission is taken care of by a five-speed manual and six-speed automatic gearbox.
