As the sedan segment gets ready to welcome new models like Hyundai Elantra, it looks like the current runners in the segment are already feeling the heat. Toyota is offering benefits of up to Rs. 40,000 on Corolla Altis, the rival of the soon-to-be-launched Elantra.

The benefits include exchange bonus and other offers, reports Oncar.in. Auto-makers shower offers and discounts on models before the arrival of new contestants in the market to push the sales of their cars. Maruti Suzuki had offered discounts and benefits of up to Rs. 85,000 on its Alto 800 ahead of the launch of Datsun redi-Go in the country.

Coming back to the Corolla Altis, the sedan competes against the likes of Skoda Octavia, Volkswagen Jetta and the Elantra in its segment. Hyundai will launch the Elantra in India on Aug. 23. According to rumours, the new Hyundai Elantra will be sold in 2.0-litre Dual VTVT petrol and 1.6 CRDi diesel engines. The petrol engine will develop 151bhp and 190Nm of torque, while the diesel unit will belt out 127bhp and 265Nm of torque. Both the engines will be coupled with the choice of manual and automatic transmission options.

Toyota Corolla is sold with a 1.8-litre VVTi petrol and 1.4-litre D-4 D diesel engines. While the 1.8l Dual VVTi Petrol engine is tuned to churn out a power of 138.1bhp at 6400rpm and peak torque of 173Nm at 4000rpm, the 1.4 litre D4D diesel produces 87.2bhp power at 3800rpm and 205Nm torque at 1800-2800rpm.
