Hollywood director Quentin Tarantino received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on 21 December in front of the TCL Chinese Theatre. Several of the actors in Tarantinos latest film, The Hateful Eight, joined the filmmaker as he celebrated the honour.
Wow, I guess I must have become a big shot, Tarantino told the crowd of fans. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the director recalled the first times he walked the famed stretch of sidewalk that would one day hold a star with his name. The line went all the way down the block and at one point, as I stood in that line, I stood right here, he said as he remembered going to see Diamonds Are Forever at the famous theatre.
According to USA Today, the honour was not ruined by boycotts or even the surprise promised by some national police-union officials upset by the directors comments at a New York rally. Tarantino was accused of sharing cop-hating remarks during the rally.
Tarantino had the support of several friends and collaborators, The Hollywood Reporter noted. Samuel L Jackson, a longtime collaborator, said: Hes all about making films that make you happy. Quentin is all about the business of movies as entertainment. Damian Buchir, Zoe Bell, Tim Roth, Clifton Collins Jr, Walton Goggins, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Pam Grier, James Parks, Craig Stark and director Edgar Rice also joined the director.
Tarantinos latest film, The Hateful Eight, was shot in 70mm Ultra Panavision and will open on Christmas Day at 100 theatres. Each showing will feature an opening overture and an intermission, Variety noted. Unlike his films Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained, The Hateful Eight is replete with bad guys and even badder ones. It will expand to additional theatres on 31 December.
