Rajinikanth's new movie with Pa Ranjith is titled Kaala Karikaalan. The name was unveiled at 10 am on Thursday, May 25. The flick has Santhosh Narayanan's music, Sreekar Prasad's editing and T Ramalingam's art direction.

Kaala is a Sanskrit word with two meanings - one is dark-skinned and the other signifies the time, death, destiny or fate. Also, the word is often referred to Yama, the god of death as per the Hindu scriptures.

It appears like Rajinikanth might have the quality of Yama and create the fear of death in the minds of those, who are engaged in unlawful activities. Karikaalan was a popular Chola king. The movie, set in Mumbai, is said to be about a gangster.

Of late, the filmmakers have started a trend where the title of their movies are revealed only after the commencement of the shooting. Also, most of them make the announcements at midnight. But Rajinikanth's new movie took a different route as the name has been announced even before the film hit the floors.

The movie marks the second union of Rajinikanth with director Pa Ranjith. They had earlier collaborated in Kabali, which turned out to be a hit at the box office in some centres.

Interestingly, Dhanush is collaborating with Rajinikanth for the first time. The makers are yet to announce the complete cast and crew.

As per the reports, Huma Qureshi has been signed to play the female lead in the flick. Samuthirakani will be seen in an important role. Pa Ranjith's favourite musician Santhosh Narayanan is teaming up with him again after Kabali. His tracks in the flick, including 'Neruppa Da' had turned out to be a chartbuster.

There were speculations that the flick was based on Mumbai's late don Haji Mastan Mirza. Following the reports, the foster son of the late gangster sent a notice to Rajinikanth asking him not to take up the movie. However, the makers denied any links to the late gangster.
