Suspected Maoists allegedly abducted six Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leaders from the Pusuguppa village in Telangana's Khammam district on Wednesday evening, just days ahead of the Lok Sabha by-election in Warangal.

The six abductees are Bhadrachalam constituency in-charge M Ramakrishna, Charla Mandal ex-president Patel Venkateshwara Rao, ex-secretary Santapuri Suresh Kumar, the TRS' Vajedu mandal president Dattakatla Janardhan, Venkatapuram mandal party president Satyanarayana and ex-sarpanch Ramakrishna, reported Sakshi Post.

Although the abduction reportedly took place on Wednesday, the incident came to light only on Thursday afternoon when the abducted leaders did not return home, reported The Hindu.

The leaders had gone to the village in the Charla mandal to meet some people. The abduction is reported to have occurred near the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border.

Maoists have reportedly left a letter in Charla for the state government, demanding a halt to "fake encounters".
